One mile an hour info

Location: Clevedon Marine Lake (Bristol)
Starts: Saturday 15 June @ midday
Ends: When you’re finished!
Team Size: 1 or 2
Age limit: 14+
Entry Fee: £20
Fundraising Target: £100

Gather a team of between 1 to 8 swimmers and swim for an hour each, for 24 hours!

This event is unique in being a personal/team endurance swimming challenge rather than about speed or distance. It’s also for everyone over the age of 14, regardless of your ability. It’s not a race, no one is being timed or tracked. You swim as much as you want, as fast as you want.

The challenge is in the endurance, the team work and camaraderie to support each other for the duration. It’s the 2am cold swims. It’s the hugs of relief at the end of each hour. It’s being huddled around the fire pit with a hot chocolate and dancing to keep warm. It’s cheering the sunrise.

It’s knowing that you’re doing it to raise money for Level Water who provide 1-to-1 swimming lessons for children with disabilities. It’s knowing that, one day, they might be able to take part in this challenge with their friends or family because of the efforts you are putting in to fundraise.

It’s knowing you are using the power of your swimming to change lives. And that’s all pretty wonderful.

24hr Challenge

One mile an hour
Solo or Duo

Sign up as a duo or take it on solo, the challenge is to swim a mile an hour, on the hour, every hour, for as long as you can. There’s no limit other than you have one hour to complete your mile. You’ll then have a rest until you start again when the clock ticks around. You can complete one mile, or see how many you can do.

If you’re looking to complete your first outdoor mile, this event is perfect for you. It will run alongside our 24hr Swim Relay so you’ll be with plenty of other Level Water swimmers with a full water safety crew keeping you safe.

It’s also a perfect challenge for the more experienced outdoor swimmer looking to see how long you can last. Is 3 miles your limit? Maybe 5? Can you make it to sunset?

Doing this as a duo is a great challenge. You’ll alternate hours swimming a mile each for as long as you can!

  • The Atmosphere

It’s always a great atmosphere. The event staff maintained their energy throughout which helped when we were flagging!
