Saturday 12 & Sunday 13 September 2025

The annual Dart10k charity swim will take place on Saturday the 12th and Sunday 13th September 2025 and, for the third time, we’re honoured to have the swim finish in Greenway House courtesy of The National Trust. We’re working closely with local stakeholders to ensure there is minimal disruption to the community, and we welcome everyone to the event.

Level Water: The Power of Swimming

All profits and funds raised from the Dart10k swim go towards swimming lessons for children with disabilities.

Without beautiful events like this, and the amazing support from the local community, these children would never learn to swim. Thank you to you all for helping make this event possible.

Some of the children who Level Water have taught to swim take part in the Mini-Swoosh yearly, and outdoor swim in Bantham.

A heartwarming moment as they simply wouldn’t be able to take part if it wasn’t for swimmers like you taking in the Dart10k.

Traffic Management

We understand the importance of having a detailed, prepared traffic management plan in place for the 12th and 13th September, given the impact that increased traffic has on you, the local residents. As a result we have put a number of steps in place to ensure that we have the best possible chance of managing a smooth flow of traffic throughout the day.

These are:

  • Professional traffic management (South Coast Traffic Management) to manage the traffic on the day.

  • Restricted number of swimmers and cars: We have a 200 car limit for swimmer traffic in our Greenway parking field. All other swim traffic will park in Totnes and will utilise our coach shuttle service.  The Greenway Dart10k parking field is at the What3Words location of ///contacts.upward.submerged (the field opposite to the gate of Coronation Meadow).

  • Traffic management planning trips: We have conducted a number of planning trips to Galmpton to familiarise ourselves with the area and plan with key stakeholders.

  • Advanced warning signs will be in place two weeks before the event.

  • Swimmer and coach communication: In order to cause the least disruption possible to the residents of Galmpton, those parking in Greenway will be told the driving route they must take that avoids driving through Galmpton. This will also apply to the coaches. All swimmers will be told not to travel to Greenway if they have not pre-booked parking. We shall be very clear with our swimmer communications to give us the best possible chance of not having swimmer traffic through Galmpton village.

  • Volunteer staff on the day. We shall have volunteers at points ensuring that swimmer traffic does not drive through the village.

Swim Traffic Route

The planned swim traffic route remains the same as 2024.

Pre-booked swimmers will be arriving at the Greenway swimmer car park (shown by the white square on the map below) on Greenway Road via Dartmouth Lane and Kennel Lane (route shown in pink below).

No swim traffic will be able to enter Greenway Road through any other access point. We will send swimmers to the location of the junction of Kennels Road and Dartmouth Lane for Greenway parking to avoid the satnav systems taking swim traffic through Galmpton village.

We will have experienced traffic stewards as well as volunteers who will be located at various places to ensure that swimmer traffic only travels on these roads.

All other traffic can access Greenway road as usual through any route that they wish.

Saturday 12th September: Approximate Timings
(Sunday 13th September will be 30-45 minutes later)

  • Approx TBC: cars and empty midi-coaches arrive into Greenway via the route above.

  • Approx TBC: 11 midi-coaches leave with swimmers. Traffic team ensures that there is no inbound traffic into Dartmouth Lane/Kennel Lane when coaches leave outbound.

  • Approx TBC: 11 midi coaches arrive from Totnes with spectators. Traffic team ensures that there is no outbound traffic out of Kennel Lane/Dartmouth Lane whilst coaches are inbound.

  • Approx TBC: 13 midi coaches leave for Totnes at each of the determined hours. Traffic team ensures that there is no inbound traffic into Dartmouth Lane/Kennel Lane when coaches leave outbound. Traffic will be able to follow coaches in the direction of travel. When empty midi-coaches arrive back in between these trips, our traffic team will manage the route inbound only.

  • TBC: Approx 200 cars will leave Greenway sporadically as the swimmers finish their swim.

All traffic management associated with the one-way road management will be managed by the traffic management contractor (South Coast Traffic Management).

Advance Warning Signage

Advance warning signage will be installed in advance of the event as per Devon County Council’s stipulation. This will be supplied and maintained by our traffic management contractor.

These signs will note that Dartmouth Lane/Kennel Lane and Greenway road has ‘managed access’ on the 12th and 13th September in order to be able to execute the periodic one-way traffic plan above.

Signage on the Event Weekend

South Coast Traffic Management will also install signage at Manor Vale Road and Greenway Road on the A379 which will direct the swim traffic down to Dartmouth Lane. We will also install 20 mph and 10 mph signage for parts of the route on these days to promote slower speeds for pedestrians, cyclists and horses.

Become a volunteer?

We’re always on the lookout for local people to volunteer and help us out over the weekend. Local knowledge is extremely helpful for us, so if you’d like to volunteer, please email geri@levelwater.org
