The Benefits of Outdoor Swimming for Children
Swimming in natural settings provides unique sensory experiences that pools cannot replicate. The varying temperatures, currents flow, and surroundings engage children, promoting adaptability and resilience. Moreover, outdoor swimming encourages a connection with nature, teaching respect for the environment and its ecosystems.
Level Water: Empowering Children Through Swimming
Level Water is a UK-based charity dedicated to providing 1-to-1 swimming lessons for children with disabilities. In the UK, access to swimming is not equal. From physical development to social and emotional confidence, they give children with disabilities the opportunity to learn to swim as a vehicle to change their lives for the better. They train teachers and fund lessons, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to learn to swim and develop a lifelong passion for the water. These lessons not only teach swimming skills but also enhance strength, mobility, and self-esteem, positively impacting children's lives both in and out of the water.

All swims take place near the Festival event village and spectators can follow close by on foot on the riverbank to cheer their children on, if not swimming with them.
For younger children under 8, the Festival features a supervised Lido area, run by the Swimming Teachers' Association (STA) allowing them to experience the river in a safe and controlled environment, and swim with their parents. Beyond swimming, families can enjoy live music, food stalls, retail exhibits, the chance to try paddleboarding and various on-site activities and the 'Zorb Zone' featuring inflatable slides, water bikes, zorbs and other fun activities, making it a comprehensive riverside festival.
