Let’s talk about Frank
As well as spina-bifida, Frank also has learning disability, meaning that he can be a tricky character to teach. But swim instructor, Michelle got the measure of him pretty quickly and they have a great relationship.
Mum, Janet was completely amazed that Frank was able to swim unassisted for the first time recently. He finally has the skills and now has the confidence to have a go at swimming on his own. Michelle had total belief that Frank was going to do it, it was just a matter of when! This is the culmination of about 8 or 9 months of lessons, and hard work. They are both so proud of him, and so are we.
Mum said “we have been unbelievably lucky to have Michelle as Frank's swimming instructor. I can’t thank her enough”
Michelle is now working with Frank to build his swimming strength and stamina, to swim further and consistently. Swimming is pretty much the only activity Frank does outside of school, which is available to him, accessible and which he actually looks forward to doing.
Whether a physical or learning disability there are many reasons why children may not be able to join group classes. With a hoist to get in and out of the pool, and the help of a 1-to-1 teacher, Frank has something to look forward to each week. We believe that all children have the right to learn to swim and fall in love with the water
