ADHD and Autism in the pool - Nico’s Story
Nico listening to his swim teacher, something he found impossible in the group class
All Nico’s family holidays involve swimming but he hasn’t yet been able to join in yet. His parents tried group lessons but his ADHD and Autism made it really hard for Nico to pay attention. He would become overwhelmed and distracted, eventually playing separately and disrupting the lesson for the other children.
Level Water has provided 1-to-1 lessons so all the swim teacher’s attention is on him (just how he likes it!). He is able to follow instructions one at a time and his swimming has come along leaps and bounds. Nico is now learning life-surviving skills and will soon be able to play in the water with the rest of his family.
Level Water is now providing lessons for children like Nico who don’t have a physical disability but other kinds of additional needs. It’s clear that Nico would not have made any progress in his group class. His mother writes “I appreciate Level Water’s support so much. Never did I think the support was even an option but with this extra help Nico is coming on leaps and bounds. I appreciate all the help the charity has provided for us.”
Well done Nico! Because everyone deserves to learn to swim and fall in love with the water.
